Good selection there, love the sleeves!

I really do like that strong red-on-black of the Die Hard disk though. I have found that the old jokes about buses is true of AC3 and DTS titles...nothing happens for ages, but then loads all come along at the smae time!

    Same here!

Great buys people. So keep a)them coming b)us posted Very Happy

Collection Updates - Page 5 Empty Great eBay bargain arrived this weekend...

Post  DGTWoodward Fri Feb 25, 2011 6:29 pm

Got this from a seller, this passed weekend. I would have posted pictures earlier on but I have had a terrible chest infection so could not stop coughing long enough to hold the camera steady!!!

PIONEER CLD-2950 Laserdisc Player with AC3 RF out modification.

First lot of 4, second lot of 4, third lot of 4, fourth lot of 4
fifth lot of 4, sixth lot of 4, seventh lot of 4, last lot of (5) grouped titles.
Lawrence Of Arabia and Jurassic Park "THX" Boxed Set, and open.

CASABLANCA Boxed Set front, and back.

The whole lot was the player and 46 titles. I pulled out the dupe's which left me with 36 titles (or versions thereof) that I did not previously own. This is really good for my collection.

Before I tell you the price, and looking at the titles, it is reasonable (I think) to assume that they would average out at about £2 each (not considering the additional postage required) and at 36 titles, that would come to £72.00 plus the P+P to get them home.

Well, I managed to pick them up personally and I won the AC3 mod'ed player and titles for....

    £70.00 in total.

I ha actually bidded on it first time around but then it had slipped past my top limit. Well, the eventual buyer must have over extended themselves because I ended up getting a second chance offer on it of £86. As my top limit had been £80, I declined.

Then I found that it had been re-listed as a "Buy-It-Now" lot at £70 and did not hesitate!

My lovely CLD-D925 is now having a well deserved rest and this is in my second set-up.

Nice pick up there DGTW. You have quite the growing laserdisc collection hey. How many players have you got now?

Couldn't let this pass me by.
I had to get my sister who lives in England to bid on it for me. Was very happy with a 5.50 pound end price. Now all I got to do is wait for her to bring it over when she comes to Japan in late July! pale

Nice catch. Well spotted because I totally missed it.

As for my menagarie of players various, Urm...that would be 7 players. But some of these, whilst functional, have been bought purely on a "break for spares" basis.

That's my story and I am sticking to it! Embarassed

As a favourite film of mine for many years, I'd had my eye on it for some time really.

When it finally came up at the right price, I did not hesitiate...I put on a bid and waited to see what would happen Very Happy .

truth is...I have been really lucky wth all my eBay items. I am certain that one of the key elements in getting an item at a good price on eBay is that you just have to bid for an item at the right time. Not everyone can keep an eye on everything all the time, even if they really would like an item...things will slip past.

Your right about bidding at the right time on EBAY there DGTW. Also, I find if you look at the ending time of the item, if it's say during a week day in the middle of the day, there is less chance of a bunch of others bidding right at the death than say an item ending on a Sunday night.
Many times I've seen a laserdisc go cheap with one bid only on a weekday auction, then seen the same laserdisc go for 5 times more in a bidding war on a Sunday night.

While we're speaking of auctions, I won a few titles the other night.

    Fight Club
    Daylight DTS
    Nightmare Before Christmas DTS
    Die Hard 2 DTS
Jurrasic Park: the Lost World DTS
    Wishmaster
    The Siege

Although I already own a US copy of the Siege, I wanted to get the Jap press as it was a very late release (8/9/2000). Also, nice to finally pick up a copy of Fight Club, though to date, it is the most I have spent on one laserdisc (got caught up in a bidding war and damned if I was going to let the other guy win Evil or Very Mad)
Now the agonizing wait until the discs arrive pale

Haha! I know the feeling on both of those sentiments BR, too true! It is easy to get into a war if it's a title that you like.

And what a great haul too! I only have the DTS of DH3 but I do have the DD5.1s of all three and they sound very good.

    Well done mate, good catch.

Both The Siege and Die Hard are still sealed which is great. The others all seem to be in mint condition too, so money well spent Cool.

while a very good film itself imo, it has excellent audio quality and the picture quality is good enough for a late LD. Nearly as good as Star Wars Ep 1, but it's a completely diffrent kind of film.

Just gave Fight Club a watch and I agree with you whole heartedly Nissling. The audio on the film is awesome! The dolby digital track had sounds shooting all round my living room.
The picture quality was pretty good but has nothing on Star Wars Ep 1 (at least on my set up).

Now its time to give the speakers another work out with the Lost World DTS . cyclops

Well, Fight Club on LD isn't a THX-Title while Star Wars is so that alone makes sense about the picture quality. Not because a THX title always looks better then a non-THX title, but in many cases, it does. I remember that I first saw Fight Club on Blu-Ray with DTS-HD MA sound last summer, so after that experience I had small hopes for the LD but it sounded nearly as good on my speakers.

It was not too bad actually, it was only £2.43 for the actual title and just £14.00 for the P+P.

    Brand new and sealed..

Babylon 5 Pilot "The Gathering", Babylon 5 Season One: Episodes One and Two

    And regular 'used' titles...

    Universal Classics, Two Film Gatefold.

Classic Gerry Anderson, But With Minor Laser Rot On Thunderbirds., But Captain Scarlet Remains Indistructable!

The two Anderson LDs are pretty poor in terms of PQ, and they are really early PAL analogue only audio, which most older machines did not play. Luckily, my trusty 909 and 925 both managed just fine.

Yes, it's certainly one of the best Swedish films ever made, if not the best.

Ingmar Bergman is one of the very few Swedish directors that are worth mentioning because big parts of the Swedish film-industry is a big joke. If you're trying to find a typical Swedish movie, it won't be much else than poor comedies such as Göta Kanal or lengthy police-films such as Beck and Wallander. There are some Swedish films in those categories (like Sällskapsresan for example) that are watchable if you're familiar with some Swedish cultures, but most of the time it's not worth it. Ingmar Bergman on the other hand was one of the greatest directors of all time, I can't get enough of his films.
