Arrived today....
Two long legged mack daddies of the DTS world...
Jurassic Park front, back, and gatefold.
Lost World: Jurassic Park II Front, and back.
The PQ and of course DTS on both is very good indeed. But the sleeve on JP is a bit ragged. The discs seem to have pushed through the spines on all three sides. And the actaul sleeve design itself is probably the worst ever, with the actaul discs themselves coming out from the centre line, instead of the outside edge as is more usual on a gatefold.
Still I am glad to have them in the collection.

And nice work there on the Dr. Who there DGTW.
So I went to Osaka for the past weekend and hit up a couple of places that sell some lasers.
Shop One: Pic 1 Pic 2
Shop Two: Pic 1 Pic 2 Pic 3
Took about an hour, but I went through every disc the shops had. Picked up a couple.
Lot 1
Lot 2
Both shops had most LDs at 300 yen each. The first shop had a 30% of sale as well.
Wow! We need shops like that in the UK. I see Iron Eagle in that third picture. I love that movie A real guilty pleasure. Great pics. Pi is a great buy, I'd love to get that on LD ( and Ducktails too )

Very Nice DGTW. Are these your first DTS LD purchases? What do you think? I love DTS and am always on the look out for more DTS Laserdiscs. Though I do find sometimes that the center speaker channel is too soft. I find myself having to turn up the volume to hear the dialogue. Then there is an explosion or crash or something in the movie, which is now too loud and am turning the volume down again
Went for a laserdisc hunt today but only came up with this.
Todays purchase
It's no signature collection edition but still a movie you have to own

No, I do have others, DIE HARD and DH III (I have DH II in AC3) and the like. A total of 11. But, like you, I am always on the lookout for more. I just like the thought of having DTS from my Laserdiscs. The loudness of the format is great but not if you like getting on with your neighbours
As for your LAST STARFIGHTER find, nice. A real CGI based FX pioneer of a movie. Was it not this and TRON that helped pave the way for films like Jurassic Park? It is also just a good and enjoyable popcorn movie too.
Well done.

Classic movie. Great pickup. I have it on DVD, VHS & VCD but haven't gotten around to picking up a copy on LD yet.

What's the movie next to ALIEN? I cannot quite make it out. Also, is that GATTACA at top-second from left? Mine is yet to arrive from eBay but it would be interesting to compare notes on this one, as lddb shows that it is a "high rot probability" candidate.
Just watched Gattaca. It's perfect. Good transfer and great audio. No sign of rot.

Latest Arrivals.
Thanks Marc, well done on securing a decent one.
This arrived yesterday...
The Thing From Another World.
I don't know if you can make out the extras, but they are good.
Triple fold sleeve.
Complete with "RKO Classics On Laserdisc" list insert.
One of my all time favourite movies.

Arrived yesterday from eBay...
These arrived from an auction which I won at £4.99 that's less than £1 per disc!
The Quick And The Dead front, and back.
Wayne's World front cover, and back.
Wayne's World 2 front cover, and back.
Mimic front cover, and back.
The Lawnmower Man front cover, and back.
I think that this is a great, haul for the price, specially when you consider that WAYNE'S WORLD 2 was brand new and sealed.
It was a present for my wife, so it did not saty sealed for very long..

Bargain! I'm on the look out for Waynes World 2 myself. There's one on eBay at mo but I don't want to pay £7 for it

New arrival today...
Really happy about this one. The Sinbad movies were a staple of my childhood and a much talked about event in the movie world.
The Ray Harryhausen Signature Series "Sinbad" Boxed Set front...
The box's rear cover...
The four discs and the insert.
The films are somewhat mixed in transfer and PQ, but all are very watchable indeed. There is a trailer for each film and a documentary (which I have yet to watch) as well as some lovely and pertinent sleeve notes on the insert by RHH where he talks about the obsession and over reliance on CGI.
Great set to have.

Re: Collection Updates
Finally had some new stuff at my local junk shop.
new stuff 1
new stuff 2
new stuff 3
new stuff 4
new stuff 5
new stuff 6
Bit of a mixed bag. Picked up Die Hard 1 and 2 cause they were the remastered AC3 editions that I've been after for a while (though still want the DTS version of course). Good thing with these two is they look to be pretty much new.
Also March, did you notice the movie top left of 'new stuff 5'?
Was looking at the cover in the store and was just about to put it back when I saw the English title written on the cover.
Close up 1

I remembered you did I write up on this film, so I felt I owed it to retroflix to buy it. If you are ever swinging passed Japan, or the next time Im heading out UK way, I'll give it to you. It can sit nicely next to your Jap edition of Star Wars 1

Re: Collection Updates
What fantastic covers.
I really like the DIE HARDs. I like that higher contrast on a darker background sort of look of those covers.
Through blind luck and from buying three seperate lots of movies, I have both the DTS and AC3 of DH1 and DH3, and the AC3 of DH2.
You wont be disappointed. They all sound fantastic!!

Do you mean this by any chance...?
BATMAN - SUBZERO (mint and sealed) front cover, back cover, and intact seal.
OK OK! I just could not resist it
Thanks for the tip Marc. I had not noticed it (ie it would have slipped past me) until you pointed it out.
Of course, I now have the dilemma of the week! I want to watch it, but I also do not want to break the seal on it.
HELP!!!!

I got these films this week. Guess that March is a bit jealous about Fight Club. The anime is Nausicaa by the way.

I really like the two Criterion titles. Is the FIGHT CLUB disc AC3?
I am sorry to reveal such a large gap of ignorance but I don't know the anime title.

Re: Collection Updates
Fight Club is an Ac3-title, in fact, it's one of the seven LD-titles (or eight if you count both editions of The Haunting) to have 6,1-sound. I don't have an AC3-demolator but the stereo PCM-track works for me and it's pretty much about outstanding.
Nausicaa is considered to be the first film by Studio Ghibli, though it was made before the studio got its name. The LD was released in 1984 and was one of the earliest movies to be released in Letterbox, even earlier then Manhattan.

Re: Collection Updates
Fight club, nice one Nissling! I'd love to get that one on LD. Great pick up. I suppose it cost a pretty penny, or did you get a sweet deal?
So I took advantage of the long weekend over here and went for my bi-monthly 'in search of laserdiscs' big drive. Left the house at 12:30 and got back at 9. Hit up 6 stores with varied results but got a few nice discs I think.
Lot 1
Lot 2
Obviously someone had had enough of their Disney collection.
Lot 3
Check out all the extra materials that came with the disc on the left side of Lot 3, intriguingly titled 'Virgin Fleet'.
Extra Materials
Lot 4 (Godzilla is the 1998 US version)
lot 5
Isn't it always they way. Never came across an AC3 or DTS version of Die Hard, then a week after I buy the AC3 edition, I find the DTS one. Not complaining though.
Also, according to LDDB, The DTS edition was pressed in 2000. Quite late, when compared to the US release.
