Nice ones!
I don't know much about Mr. Argento's protégée....yet.
But ANTZ looks good I bet, and it's in 5.1 too

Nice pick ups Lafong. That Akueriasu LD has a sweet cover. Also funnily enough, I was just looking over my copy of ANTZ last night. Weird coincidence.

Re: Collection Updates
For anyone who is into giallos and euro-slashers Soavi made his considerable mark in the genre starting with this picture. It has many names: Aquarius, Deliria, Stagefright and Bloody Bird. These movies might be an acquired taste, but you're a fan this is a pretty sweet ride.
Antz is a fun thing to have, as well.
Less than 1 Dollar each.

Arrived today...
For the princely sum of just £7.99 ($12.75)...
My first Disney Deluxe set. Can you believe it...£8.00 only! The set is totally complete with a full set of untouched litho-prints and hardback book, the 3 discs are pristine and the cover is pretty good. Some judicious use of Fairy Liquid and it is as good as new.
To me that ranks as a real result!

Superb! I've been looking to get that set myself, but I doubt I'll find one for that price, especially in that condition.

Re: Collection Updates
Nice box set there DGTW. Disney sure know how to put together a good laserdisc boxset (though the photo frame in Cinderella seems like an odd choice imo)
So I thought I'd jump on the youtube bandwagon and try my hand at making a video of my recent ld acquisitions.
It took like 17 takes, took even longer to upload and is far more embarrassing than I was expecting, so we'll see as to whether I make more or, in shame, delete this one and go and hide in the corner for a bit.

Re: Collection Updates
DGTW; That Snow White Box just defines the term "Deluxe", doesn't it? Breathtaking. I'm very happy for you! (Thank the Pharaohs that I have it myself)
I found these yesterday:
Good release of this early "high concept" picture. Very entertaining.
El Topo. I'm not impressed with Jodorowsky and his films, BUT this is one of THE legendary laserdiscs of yore. I couldn't pass on it.
Cult- and collector's items are great on disc, as we all know. -But so are grade Z schlock titles... to me anyway. This cheapie spends all it's money on early CGI during the opening credits and then has poor Michael Dudikoff trot around tiny sets with far too few blinking lights, and makes Brion James wear latex and a very silly wig.
I'd never get this on DVD or even used tape, but the fact that someone did a top notch release of this makes it irresistible on laserdisc.
Just as cheapo cheapo flicks are fun on disc, so are overblown, expensive duds. This turkey from Dino tanked in '86 and here it is on laserdisc -the original release, in full scope and a kick-a#*! cover. I hope to get more flops like this one.

Looks like they've got Brion James taking the place of Rutger in this one. I gotta see it.

Re: Collection Updates
Lucky pick-ups there, Bullruckle. I love Vertigo dearly.
I got these yesterday.
The Samuel Goldwyn/Pioneer Special Editions are amongst the most stunning releases I know. I don't have all the Danny Kayes in the series, but now I have one more. A wonderful, very funny picture. -But then; I'm nuts about Danny Kaye.
Next up: a great movie in B/W and Cinemascope. -And with such a striking cover it's a winner on laserdisc.

Re: Collection Updates
Nice get LaFong. Are you finding all these titles in stores in Tokyo? Funny to think how a copy of Wonder Man made its way to there. Also cool young man picture of Dean Stockwell.
Made another vid with some of the discs I've bought in the last month:

Re: Collection Updates
With these two I followed your suggestion, or rather; an impulse you gave me and got them from eBay. Wonder Man sealed for 9 bucks plus s/h. No regrets there. You're quite right; it would be hard to come by in this city, but stranger things have happened. I found Ball of Fire/A Song Is Born in a store here once. It's in the same Danny Kaye series.
Several mouth watering titles there Bullruckle. (I'm glad I have most of them or I'd go nuts watching you flip through one super release after another). Is your No Escape letterboxed? Mine isn't. What about Capricorn One? Letterboxed?
I think I've mentioned it before, but that Firstenberg effort "Ninja 3" is a real guilty pleasure of mine, too. I'll break a bottle of Dom they day I find it. I told Sam about my appreciation of some of his pictures and he seemed genuinely happy to hear it. A good guy.

Both No Escape and Capricorn One are not widescreen unfortunately. I'm watching No Escap now and all I'm thinking is Ray went from Goodfellas to this in under four years? What happened?!
So you meet the director of Ninja 3? When did this happen? Tell us the story LaFong!

Re: Collection Updates
Both pictures are originally in scope so the pan scan really hurt them. Capricorn One is stunning in Panavision.
I'm afraid my encounter with Sam Firstenberg is far from spectacular. Our paths crossed by chance in connection with a project that didn't materialise. He was a very able filmmaker, though. I think the Cannon guys and he went together well.
