What is your favorite laserdisc?
If I had to pick one it would be my Indiana jones box set. It just looks and feels great and of course the movies are totally awesome.

Re: What is your favorite laserdisc?
Good idea for a thread Stevo,
I think that mine, at least today - ask me tomorrow and it might be a different answer for different reasons - it would be either
my Japanese copy of Eraserhead
or...
my Japanese STAR WARS SPECIAL EDITION Boxed Set.

Re: What is your favorite laserdisc?
Mmmm... Like DTGW, I will probably have a new fav next week, but I'm going for Iron Eagle. It's a no frills pan & scan but it is one of my fav 80s movies and the artwork looks fantastic.

Jurrasic Park. 3 discs, excellent box package and comes with a fold out DNA chart and a cool booklet. It's not my favorite movie, but it is my favorite LD so far.

The "classic" Toho 1966 film War Of The Gargantuas. Otherwise known in Japan as Furankenshutain no kaiju: Sanda tai Gaira. I'm talking about the Japanese language only widesceen laserdisc. Pump that through a Pioneer Elite receiver on some Polk speakers and your in for some real fun.

Re: What is your favorite laserdisc?
Hard to choose just a single one but here's some of my favorites.
The Neon Genesis Evangelion Movie-box set
Trainspotting (Criterion)
Blade Runner (Criterion)
Mononoke-Hime
The Godfather Trilogy: 1901-1980
The Nightmare Before Christmas box set
The Beatles Anthology
And some more.

Re: What is your favorite laserdisc?
Star Wars definitive for me. I might buy another copy as the book and box are looking a little tired now - it still gets played alot.

It's good, it was my first ever LD buy(!) but I think the layer of DNR over the image lets it down a bit. That's why I personally place the Spec Eds above it. Can't beat it for extras though!

Re: What is your favorite laserdisc?
Yes I agree about the picture quality of the SE box, but personally I'd rather watch the originals on VHS in 4:3 with mono sound than the butchered CGI versions any day.
I know that the original theatrical cuts are now available in the new trilogy DVD release too, but I heard that they are actually sourced from the laserdisc versions anyhow so the definitive is still the highest quality original cut as far as I know.

My mrs has just bought the definitive box set for me, should arrive in the next few days
I'm looking forward to seeing the original theatrical cuts in all of their LD glory, BUT I actually like the addad SE parts. Yes they look out of place, yes they now look more dated than the original footage, but I still look forward to seeing them when they appear on the screen ( and I'm sure my mrs appreciates me pointing out which parts were added every time I make her watch them :-) )
I love my SE box and the picture quality is excellent, but I'm sur the definitive will take pride of place when it arrives.

This week it's......
Well, I have changed my mind....this week my favourite is the 1966 BATMAN: THE MOVIE (Japan) Laserdisc.
It's not a great picture, it's 4:3, it's mono analogue only, it's got subtitles in the picture...
BUT IT'S BRILLIANT!!!
It's prectially brand new, has an undamaged obi and is just the coolest thing I own (can you tell that I am a mssive BATMAN fan ?)
PS, Lucky you Marc. It's really silly, just for a moment I was really jealous...then I remembered that I had a set too

Re: What is your favorite laserdisc?
My favourite would have to be the Japanese Die Hard Trilogy set. http://www.lddb.com/laserdisc/12272/PILF-2175/Die-Hard-Trilogy:-Collector-Set
It's not anything special in terms of content, but I love the Die Hard movies more than is healthy and this boxset is just beautiful.

Hi Geoff, if I have not said it already...welcome to the forum , You might know me better as LightStorm from the DVD forum...
I too would like to add Japanese versions of the DIE HARD movies to my collection, ideally I'd like the DTS ones, though I don't think that they are available as an actual boxed set like your stunner, just singles.

I've also got the American DTS release of Die Hard. Never bothered with the others.

Can't really choose just one, but Bram Stoker's Dracula Criterion is definitely up there. The sound is 'only' Dolby Surround, but it blows most DVD's completely away (not that THAT is very hard ;-) )

Mine is The Mutilator. Mainly because its the one I have worked hardest at tracking down, the artwork is stunning and its not, entirely legally, available on DVD.

I always looked for the Japanese discs as they were much better discs and the presentation was great too. I agree, great art work.

Re: What is your favorite laserdisc?
Mine is The Lion King, my favourite childhood movie. The sound and audio are beautiful on Laserdisc despite my crappy player and super low budget surround sound system.
