Re: Collection Updates
Nice work on the JP DTS Xtempo.
This haul arrived today:
Today's Haul
This lot of discs are all brand new and sealed!
Sealed lot
This lot are used (most still in original plastic though)
Not sealed lot
Really I only bought the lot for the criterions, a couple of the box sets and the cartoons. Doubt theres any interest out there but don't really have the space for most of the rest so if any one is up for a trade (im talking 10-15 discs to 1 if needs be), Hook me up with a PM. Otherwise I'll just take the ones im not keen on to my local junk store where I get 10yen a movie (13 cents). Seems a waste.

Re: Collection Updates
Here's a list of all the titles, from the upper left to the right.
First picture:
Fellini Satyricon (CAV-box set)
Silverado (CAV box set)
Goldfinger
Blue Velvet
Dersu Uzala
Yojimbo
Sleepy Eyes Of Death: The Chinese Jade
Sleepy Eyes Of Death: Sword of adventure
Royal Tramp
Second picture:
The Wild Bunch
Once a thief
Butterfly and sword
Fong Sai-Yuk
Dragon From Russia
There you have it. I have to say that I love to have cheesy Hong Kong-action on Laserdisc, with that I mean stuff that you would find on Youtube with titles like "Most epic fight scene ever". A good example is Duel To The Death that I saw on LD some months ago and it was just jawusume. Just look at this scene, I know you want it on LD.

Damn straight. Girls-with-guns HK pictures form the 80s/early 90s done from scratchy theatrical prints are real treats on disc. Stuff with Yukari Oshima, Moon Lee and the In the Line of Duty-series. Very entertaining.

Re: Collection Updates
A used LP/LD store in Tokyo is history as far as discs go.
Getting these was my way of saying "thanks for sticking with discs this long".
Even unexceptional titles (like this) look good when they get the Pioneer laserdisc treatment.
The great mad genius' greatest maddest picture. Of course not the 8 hrs version. That hasn't been seen for nearly 100 years.

Re: Collection Updates
Hey LaFong,
Just looking at imdb and that Evolver movie sounds like a classic. Is it any good? Also, that woman on the cover of Greed looks scary. Whats her story then?
Managed to pickup a few classics myself today:
Nothing like a bit of First Men in the Moon action. And love the Village of the Damned. He's thinking of a brick wall!!
Freaky little bastards

Re: Collection Updates
There are four of my favourite films right there BR...The two 'Village...' movies, the '...Moon' movie and the 'Mysterious...' movie.
The MWFTE is just plain odd, but good.

Re: Collection Updates
I think The Man Who Fell To Earth was based off a book though I'm not sure. If it is I hope it would be less confusing as the movie is. It is also a different style than most films so to me its hard to get into. though it is a good movie

Re: Collection Updates
I remember the man who fell to earth was a tough movie to sit through the last time I attempted it (10 or so years ago). I actually only bought it now because a) it was there and b) I thought the Bowie commentary track should be a interesting listen.
Can't wait to fire up the other 3. going to be a good weekend

Re: Collection Updates
More great Ron Goodwin scores on the fantastic "Damned"-pictures. Sweet double feature that.
Those Harryhausen - Schneer Pioneer releases are just wonderful as well. Lucky you!
No. Evolver is far from classic - especially next to one of cinema's masterpieces (Von Stroheim's silent Greed -no wonder she looks creepy. That's madness in her eyes). -BUT it isn't a turkey either. Reasonably well put together and fairly ambitious sci-tech-fi. Plus -hey- its's on disc. Who can say "no" to rare genre fare when it comes in the holy format? -And costs less than a side order of fries...
The commentaries are worth sitting through on Man Who fell.
I admire how you manage to find these fantastic titles. Well done indeed.

Now on the way:
Looney Tunes, Volume 1 - 2 - 3 and 4 box sets. Vol.5 was a bit pricey for me at the moment, but would love to get it to complete the collection at some point.

Re: Collection Updates
Hey March, nice video. That Super Ted LD looks awesome. I used to love that show as a kid. 12 episode to one disc is also great value.
I'd also like to give a shout out to DGTW. You the Man!
Picked up a few disc this week. A few Criterions, Peeping Tom and Invasion of the Body Snatchers as well as a few other things but the cream of the crop were these two I thought:
The Keep
Young Indy
The YIJC is missing the Obi unfortunately, but it still has the phone card which is nice.

That's what I keep saying to him...!
These are my new arrivals
The Water Margin Volume 1
The Water Margin Volume 2
Who remembers this classic series? One disk has a few tiny sparklies early into tht episode, but it may just have been a transfer fault, as the rest is very good. They only put out these two discs before DVD started biting, so I am happy to get them. Happy indeed, I picked them up for 99p the pair!

Enjoyed that. Thanks. Well... you ARE right about Firewalker, but it's a guilty pleasure of mine so I'll continue my search for it (together vith Avenging Force) -I saw it in the cinema when it came out.
