Hello LaserDiscMad!
Small world, I was born in Rushden, Northamptonshire. A really tiny little place. You know the joke about a town being so small that the speed limit signs are back-to-back? That's Rushden.
WOW! 1200+ discs, where do you keep them all? I am more or less at a realisitc cap at about 200 (including dupes). Are there any pix of you system?
As for moving over to an HD-LCD panel. I assume you have been using a CRT TV? Well, you will notice a difference in quality. Don't forget that the new sets are designed primarily for all digital, so good old analogue from any source will be secondary.
All new TVs will deal with it differently, our 47" PHILIPS (less than 1 yar old) is VERY MUCH better at it than our 46" SAMSUNG (only just 2 years old), but both are 1080p sets. The tolerances will always vary from maker to maker. Get yourself a Video Essentials calibration disc, if you don't already have one (and at 1200 strong disc, I suspect that you probably already have) and that will give the best result possible.
Line doublers will help, apparently - if you can find a good one for the right price. Don't have one myself so I cannot really say. However our US cousins seem to swear by them for older analogue sources.
