Anyone had any experience with this? I came across this video on youtube - the guy is using what looks like a dvd recorder to upscale.

Re: Upscaling LaserDisc
Interesting, I might give that a try. I'll try to get a bid done at the weekend and post the results.

Re: Upscaling LaserDisc
I have a no-name upscaler that I use in my second system. This is now made up of a PIONEER CLD-2950 (with RF AC3 out modification) and the upscaler at its heart.
I use it on the second system because the SAMSUNG TV is just not as good as the PHILLIPS set in our living room, which seems to give a good picture anyway.
It can upscale to 1080p but seems to give a more film like image at 720p, from an S-Video signal out of the 2950. The unit also takes in an analogue stereo Left/Right audio signal and combines it into the HDMI-out feed so you get sound and picture from the HDMI lead as you would normally.
We initially tried it with the PHILLIPS but really found that, for all the improvements it was supppsed to introduce, it also brought in too many artifacts that the TV just did not like, not a problem we found using it on the SAMSUNG...which, to be honest, has never given a consistantly good picture from any source, HD or otherwise.
