    Ingmar Bergman on Laserdisc

Post  nissling on Sat Mar 12, 2011 10:27 am

I'm a big Ingmar Bergman-fan, though I only have a nearly complete Bergman collection on Dvd and would love to have some of his films on LD. It seems to be hard to find his films on LD, so I wonder if anyone here has any of his flicks on LD and can tell how the editions are.

If you haven't seen his films, you certainly should give The Seventh Seal and Fanny And Alexander a watch. If you're going to watch Fanny And Alexander, try to find the complete five-hour version since it's a huuuge improvement over the original (and short) three-hour version. Criterion released it on Dvd with a pretty good transfer.

These are all of his films that I can find on LD.

    Criterion:

The Seventh Seal (available in both CLV and CAV with Gatefold)
    Cries & Whispers
    The Magic Flute
    Wild Strawberries
    The Silence
    The Magician
    Autumn Sonata
Scenes from a Marriage (short version)
    Through A Glass Darkly
    Smiles of A Summer Night
    Water Light

    Other editions:

    The Magic Flute (Paramount)
Sawdust & Tinsel (Embassy Home Entertainment)
Fanny And Alexander (Embassy Home Entertainment, short version)
Fanny And Alexander (Pioneer LDC, complete version, JAP-release)
The Seventh Seal (Tartan Video, UK-release with Gatefold)
    Persona (MGM)
Cries And Whispers (Towa video, JAP-release)
    Hour of the Wolf (MGM)

Can anyone find something more of him on LD? If someone has any film made by him on LD, I'm very interested to know more about it. I've always been curious how The Seventh Seal gatefolds look like, it's also one of the first LD's by Criterion (#10).
