Does anyone have any knowledge of this player? I know that it has a less than satisfactory LD transport mechanism, the drive being based on an inferior system.

The thing is, how does it perform in the LD picture reproduction stakes? The UK Laserdisc Archive has some good photos and a description of the official spec, bit there is no real write up of the machine.

Google was a total waste of time as all it tried to do was direct me to where I could buy a new one at the best price (Ha! As if!!) and the actual operational reviews were of the DVD section only!!

So, any ideas folks, fellow forumites? No ?

Hi there, sorry for the delay in replying, but I've only just spotted your post.
I've owned a DVL-90 since buying it new in 1997 and have found it to be an excellent LD player. It provides as good, if not better picture than my Pioneer CLD-D925 bought in the same year. (this was considered one of the best PAL/NTSC combi players at the time)The ONLY downside is that it is a 110v US machine, so needs a step-down transformer. The audio side is very good, and is also a good DVD player, and excellent CD player. Built like a battleship, looks beautiful and has worked faultlessly for the past 14 years.
I run my DVL-90 through a Meridian 519 into a Denon AVR4310 that up-scales the picture to 1080i into a 50" Panasonic Plasma TV. If you'd like any further info, pleas feel free to PM me.

    Best regards.

Thank you Mike. The information is very much appreciated.

I would very much like an Elite machine, but I do realise that it will be a "US LD's only" player. That does not bother me as all my best LDs are NTSC anyway. Very Happy

    All the best.
