Babylon 5 on LD: near-complete set + loads of stuff Empty Babylon 5 on LD: near-complete set + loads of stuff

Post  daveyrudd Wed May 02, 2012 10:02 am

Hello! I have just obtained an impressive (I think anyway) LD collection of well over one hundred titles, all in Near Mint condition and all with all correct inserts where applicable, as far as I can tell. I am in County Durham (England) in the Consett area.

Now, first off, I am primarily a collector and seller of music (vinyl and CD). You can check my feedback and credentials on ebay under ebay user name daveyrudd. Everything I sell is packed and posted properly; I've been doing it for years with LPs etc. The LDs I've bought are no good to me as I don't own a player and won't be getting one. They were included in a record collection I bought. The vendor no longer wanted them as he'd switched to Bluray. And he had clearly looked after everything very well.

Anyway, included with the collection was an almost complete set of Babylon 5 discs. As far as I can ascertain there are only two missing. These are 1.10 and 1.11. Otherwise, they're all there - Seasons 1, 2, 5 and 5 (there was no season 3 I believe?). There are 31 discs in total, weighing nearly 10 kilos!

To cut to the chase (and I admit my total ignorance of Laserdiscs) it is all for sale. Does anyone know if it would be best to sell Babylon 5 discs individually or as a collection? Is anyone even interested in Babylon 5 Laserdiscs?

There are also Star Trek discs including triple packs The Captains Collection and The Q Continuum; about ten in total.

Then there are over 70 other titles including horror (e.g. Italian Zombie flicks), Sci-Fi, Blockbusters (e.g. Titanic, Jurassic Park, the four Alien titles, Schwarzenneger) - loads of stuff. I will post a full list if anyone is interested. Just let me know. Depending on feedback, I will list some on ebay as they are just taking up space and the Mrs. isn't too happy. I would also be happy to trade for good quality vinyl record collections, especially Punk, Metal, 50s Rock n Roll etc. (I hope this isn't off topic; I don't want to put any noses out of joint!) Cheers! David.

    Here's a list of the B5 stuff.
    Season 1
    Vol. 1.1 The Gathering
Vol. 1.2 Midnight on the Firing Line / Soul Hunter

I am not a big Babylon 5 fan, but I was just curious what the other LD's consisted of. You said some blockbusters and horror flicks, could you list them? Thanks!

Hello. Here is a list (hopefully) of the movies. If you've any problems viewing it, just leave a post on here and I'll get back ASAP. Only thing I'd like to say is that postage from the UK to the USA is likely to be very expensive. PS: My knowledge of LDs is minimal. I have no idea of formats etc so if you have a Q. about a particular item just let me know and I'll do my best...

I may need to amend these later at a more appropriate time...

Hello. I will have a look and get back to you. But I must tell you that the various formats are all a bit of a mystery to me. It's a Public Holiday tomorrow so I'll have a good look then. Are there any that you are particularly interested in? It just saves me having to go through all 100+ of them. Cheers! David.

Hi Paul. OK, I've had a look at the discs you're interested in.

There's nothing that actually states "DTS" that I can see on the covers; but the following are listed on the covers as being in "Dolby Surround"...you'll know better than me whether there's any difference.

    Daylight
    Die Hard 1 & 2
    Lost in Space
    Strange Days
    The Crow
The Thing (also comes with an insert with an interview with John Carpenter)
    Volcano
    Waterworld

Note that Armageddon does not appear to be in Dolby Surround; I can see only Dolby Digital Stereo on the sleeve. I hope that's of some help. Cheers!

Hi. Can I just ask you what the difference is between Dolby Surround and DTS? Is one a newer technology than the other? Is one now obsolete? Will they be harder to sell as DS rather than DTS? Hope you can help. Best regards from David.

Hi David, please see this link relating to DTS.

    http://www.blamld.com/Laserdisc/dts.htm

DTS Laserdiscs tend to be sort after as they have a far superior sound to Dolby Surround and AC3 Dolby Digital and often beating dvd for sound quality.

Check out www.lddb.com as this is an extensive archive of laserdiscs that were produced and in various sound formats.

The below link lists the 65 DTS titles that I already have.

    David,

I'm actually looking at putting together a complete collection of Babylon 5 Laserdiscs, and I'm short a few. Of your collection I'd love to buy from you:

    5.1 In the beginning
    5.8 Corps is mother
    5.10 Movements of fire

Happy to offer 10 GBP per disc plus whatever postage comes to.

I've actually bought a several 'incomplete' collections in the past, so I have doubles of just about every disc (except those lists above and 1.11), so I'm loathe to buy yet another set.

Let me know if you are interested.
