    Post  icecapuk10 Sat Sep 03, 2011 9:28 am

Hello all laserdisc owners. Does any body know how to rectify this error. What happens is when I place a disc in the tray the draw retracts but then I hear a mechanical noise that sounds as if it is stuck. I believe its the disc clamp thats causing it. It was intermittent for a while and now more apparent and really annoying as sometimes you have to eject the disc a few times before it will actually spin up the disc. I am currently now using a U.S. Pioneer DVL 909 which is NTSC only but I would like my trusty CLD925 back up and running as I have owned it from new.

Any help or suggestions would be appreciative.

    Many thanks

This link does seem to back your thoughts up...

    http://igelect.co.uk/perrcds.html

The easiest thing (I say 'easy' it depends on how confident you are) would be to try following advice found in posts 11, 12 and 13 on this thread...

Then....well there are still some authorised repair outlets.

    Hope this helps.

Hi and thanks for the reply. I have removed the outer case and removed the disc tray. I have removed and cleaned the belt and also the grooves that it runs in. My there was some dirt in those tracks maybe the belt was slipping. Only time will tell now and lets see what happens.

    Once again many thanks.
    Cheers

Hi all does anybody know the size of the laserdisc rubber drive belt( the one that causes all these loading issues). I have spent some time trying to find a replacement and found this site http://www.cricklewoodelectronics.com/Cricklewood/home.php?cat=269
However i do not have the foggiest as to the size required. Any help would be greatly appreciated as the U1 error on my D925 is giving me grief.

I have a D925 that displays the same error but it is the Laser assembly that is the issue with my player as far as I am aware. I may stick it up on Ebay for Spares or Repair or if you would like to make me an offer. Where in the UK are you based?

Hi, I live in county Durham but to be honest I already have 2 other players and would prefer minimal cost to replace the belt as mine is over 15yrs old.

    thanks

Go to link and telephone semnedis and ask for Judy Martin or Tina Dack to help you find the spare part that you might need to hopeful get some results. The model parts might still be easily available but do expect some silly prices.

    http://www.semenedis.com/

I had to go though them years ago when the spindle motor for CLD-1750 failed with +90db high pitch wining sound I kidd you not, it was as if the bearings had gone and the part was rubbing.

I got that fixed and spindle motor was around £50.00 eleven years or so ago.

It wasn't easy to put the part in. I had the player yes in bits! Took a bit of trail and error as I ran into disc draw closing issues and it needs to be aligned up for smoother close and play/eject modes.

I then brought around the same time a CLD-2950 and that had spindle motor issues within a year or having it SIGH here we go again Laughing .

The spindle I think was a few pounds less over CLD-1750 spare part.

So there it is. Contact them and ask for (spare parts)you may have to look at (Pioneer service manual) to locate what you may expect to be the issue they can't do it for you, you need to look at the manual and give them a (part number).

Expect a few weeks as the part may have to come from Japan.

Video or CLD-925 playing and the sound it makes is not so far off from a CLD-2950 with lid off even the clamp looks close to 2950.

YUP replaced with a replacement belt of another player and its doing the same Sad The tray fully retracts with the Laserdisc it is only when the disc is being raised in the unit that I have this problem. I have already changed the loading belt for a replacement one so (open unit here) I think its to do with the plastic cogs and the sliders. The belt slips on the small motor drive so it could be the motor pulley, the white cogs stop turning and it sounds like a motor is stuck. The moment I push the large belt wheel (there is a small resistance), the cogs move, sliders raise a little more and the disc engages and starts spinning up. I also think that disc/tray weight may have something to do with this as removing the whole disc tray, this issue only occurs in about 1 in 10 times.
Any thoughts or guidance would be appreciated as i know pioneers are reknowned for loading issues and I believe its not only aimed at the Pioneer CLD-D925.

My thinking is that if the loading belt motor is slipping then the resistance is via the white cogs(and a large black cog) which pulls the sliders. Maybe its time to lubricate the runners with electronic grease. Any one have a service manual for the Pioneer D925?
Will order a new belt now.

Pioneer U1 issues and mechanical noises when ejecting and loading a disc are to do with the slider mechanism inside the player. Sometimes nudging the left hand side of the player will jolt the belt but not all the time. To fix this first turn off the power and disconnect from wall socket. Remove the outer cover (7 screws, 2 either side and 3 at the back), turn the power on and eject the disc drawer. When the disc drawer is extended out there are 2 plastic levers preventing the drawer coming all the way out. At this point turn the player off and disconnect from the power supply, then using your thumbs push the 2 plastic levers on the back of the disc tray and extract the drawer. Take note when pulling out the drawer as to the 2 metal runners so it is easy replacing the drawer the same way it came out. Once the drawer is out you will see some white plastic cogs with a black rubber belt attached to a pulley.( it is this belt that causes the issue) remove this belt and clean the pulley and then replace with pioneer belt part VEB1184. Use a Google search for electrical outlets that sell these. Cost's can vary from £3 - £11 in the UK. Once this has been fitted re assemble the same way as dismantling. Ensure when replacing the disc drawer that the unit has power and that the metal plates on the rear of the drawer are in line with the two grooves and the drawer is flush on each runner (you will feel a little resistance when pushing the drawer back onto the runners but the player will accept it and retract the drawer itself onto the internal runners). If you fail at this stage by not aligning correctly you can damage the drawer and the player runners. Remove the power source and reassemble the top cover

I have fixed 2 x Pioneer CLD D925 both mine and my brothers using this method and have happily been using the players for over 6 months now with no issues (played about 100 movies). Unit fully back to normal Laughing

The slider mechanism is the same for most Pioneer laserdisc players made from 1994 and up so be sure if you can get a service manual for your model just to be sure.
The method above also works on Pioneer CLD 515, CLD2950 and 2850 models.

Although this has worked for me and if you use the method above and you damage your player, I will not be held responsible. Only attempt this if you are comfortable in reparing the device yourself, if not seek a service centre to perform this replacement belt process for you.

    Hope these help..

just found the following info which may be useful

    PIONEER ERROR CODES

This information is from a CLD-D925 player but is relevant to many others, and refers to the codes displayed on the TV screen when an error occurs with a Pioneer LaserDisc player, this may also be displayed on the player display on some models. If this code has disappeared but the fault remains the code can be re-displayed by holding down the <CLEAR> button for approximately 5 seconds.

The code is displayed in the top L/H corner of the screen and is in the form:

<letter> <number> (two digit hex number)

    eg. A1 (FF)

The Hex code is only of relevance to those with specialist diagnostic equipment, and the important part of the code is the letter+number part which is briefly as below.

    CODE MEANING
    H0 Spindle overcurrent detection
U0 FG abnormality (spindle speed sensor)
H1 Spindle not reaching required speed before time-out
    H2
A0 -5V power supply line abnormality
L* Loading error (timed-out, no tilt)
    E* Slider error
    U1 Miss clamp
    P* Spindle error
    F* Focus error

    * = 1: Play, 2: Open, 3: Standby, 4: Clamp, 5: Setup (rotation start), 6: TOC read, 7: Play

    8: Search, 9: Side A > B, A: Side B > A
