    Hello new here no doubt!

    I’m Andy

Well I’ve been into the shiny 12” laserdisc a bit late in the game since late 1993 when I brought my first Pioneer CLD-1750 that now needs a few basic parts to get her up and spinning again.

I have other laserdisc players CLD-2950 that also SIGH needs a few simple parts nothing to hard to fix.

I have new but second/hand Pioneer that is currently spinning the grand yesterdays quality DVL-909 which is by far the best Pioneer I have owned and was cheap buy it now off ebay!

I made the mistake many years ago at selling privately to a shop nearly 80 to 100 laserdisc and I have regretted it and will not make a poor decision like that ever again.

The difference between some pressings vs DVD vs bluray is often huge with colour balance/framing and sound mix nothing to do with lossey or lossless which is only another BS word to sale a bluray!

If the general DOLBY film mix which is the case with some lousy DVD special edition releases and often poor crappy bluray with fake STEREO SURROUNDS I kidd you “all” not!

So now I like to collect them as and when.

I have looked around the site a few months ago and noticed a laserdisc collection what’s in your collection thread, so I’ll type up all the current titles I have sometime later on.

    Cheers all Cool

Welcome to the forum. All the better for having more members.

I too have a 909. It is one of my three main players, the other two being the 2950 (with AC3 out) and the 925.

I too came to LD late in the game. Very late in the game.

It was last year actually. And from there I have a collection of 9 machines, two demodulators and over 300 titles! I sure made up for lost time!

    Hope you enjoy the forums.

    All the best

Thank you DGT nice to be on-board. I saw the site promoted on youtube a few months ago. I'm also joined to the Laserdisc database site and that's it.

    WOW!

300 titles I bet there are some that I have and some that I used to have and some that I have seen in laserdisc catalogue that I’d like to buy.

I guess the 2950 with AC-3 mod was buy of ebay or elsewhere. I have only seen a few 2950 on ebay with an AC-3 mod but the only up for bidding and I never bid on items as the price can go too high!

I’m after a demodulator at reasonable price so it can talk to my Yamaha RX-V650 as some past AVR have DOLBY AC-3 decoder built into the AVR.

I had my first rotten ebay sale today when THE ARRIVAL (1996) DOLBY AC-3 turned up after 8 days late within the UK with side2 cracked Mad in half! I wasn’t pleased at all! In fact I was red faced steaming mad!

I got a refund for it and I’ll post a new thread on this in the Laserdisc chatter forum later with the pictures and the users username account so others can avoid this inexperienced laserdisc seller who had 0 clue on how to packaged the disc for safe transit.

    Hi Andy,

Bullruckle in Japan here. Welcome mate. Thats sure does suck about the Arrival. First of having to wait 8 days within country is a joke. I would have been tearing my hear out, then only to receiver a broken disc! Very harsh indeed.

Looking forward to your posts my man.

    Thank you bullruckle

You’re right on many counts! I was close to tearing my hair out in front of the postman.

I have since cooled down I got my refund from this, this WANKER! Mad on ebay ripping me off, the cheeky bugger.

That disc is not even safe to play side 1 as I fear the acceleration would crack the other side and the disc would damage the player.

I'll post the new thread now, I was busy last night with some Sub Bass Shakers that also turned up yesterday from the US and on time!

    Hi Andy
Dreadful story that. Hope you'll find the Arrival in mint condition somewhere else.
Looks like we joined the LD ranks around the same time; early 90s. I was in London at the time; Tower Records, The Laserdisc Shop, Cinema Store and even Steve's Sounds were places movie buffs could empty their pockets.
    Those were the days indeed.
Glad to know you, Andy. Welcome.

    Hello
    LaFong

Issue was resolved thou I’m not going to be as hasty next time at buying without checking the seller out.

That laserdisc is only good for side 1. I have played it few times and I’m getting hocked on the film but I can’t play side 2. I have to stop the laserdisc player within 2seconds before it auto switches over to side 2.

I have only seen the last 30 mins on TV years ago so I know what happens at the end its the in-between part that I’m missing LOL.

I think I have heard the name Tower Records or maybe seen it advertised in home cinema magazine that I still have.

Yes Laserdisc had bit of crunch in 90’s with BBFC and customs clamping down on it unfairly. It was getting near to its peak in fanfare customers and I wouldn’t be surprised if it was some secret plan because DVD was only a few years away.

Its like the government killed AM CB in the UK and then they f%)+_ked us over with NTSC laserdisc. No

You may be in luck my friend as I may have a copy of the NTSC version of The Arrival as a dupe. I recently aquired the pioneer boxed edition which I must say is rather nice and with many extras. I too have been a long standing Laserdisc collector as far back as 1990 starting with a Pioneer CLD-1450. I now have 3 players the CLD-D925, CLD-D515 and a U.S. DVL909. I know your pain when receiving damaged discs from ebay as I have been there and tend to vet my purchases and check their history and so forth. Another area where you can buy from is The Laserdisc Database I have had a few from there and havent been dissapointed at all. Laughing

    ^^ icecapuk10

I have brought only on laserdisc though laserdisc database Final Approach (1990) that is bit of rare title not yet available on DVD much less bluray.

I have ordered a copy of The Arrival on bluray with a 8channel mix? Should be interesting listening. I'll buy another copy The Arrival on laserdisc once I have gotten over the laserdisc ebay nightmare.

I remember that fierce determination to acquire discs like crazy when I jumped into LD about a decade and a half ago. Very cool to see people just now getting into LD and having that 'kid in a candy store' mentality for something new. I've personally exhausted most of the titles I really want and only buy about 2-3 a year now, but it's still quite possibly my favorite media format from a nostalgia point of view.

Also - welcome aboard, Andy. Smile It can be cumbersome to re-acquire discs you once owned as some titles are much harder to find now than just a few years ago. I still sell my discs far more than I acquire/buy them, but I try to hold onto my most prized ones that I feel I may regret for letting go of and not finding another copy.
